Continuing our posts for International Women’s Day on the women behind the scenes at HANIA by Anya Cole.

Hajrije Kajtazaj was born and raised in Kosovo.  She was raising her eight children and always knitting, and as her daughter Dhurata says even as a little girl she remembers her knitting sweaters for her children. They escaped the war in 1999 and came to America to join their father. Hajrije began working for Anya when she was first starting HANIA and Dhurata first met Anya when she went with her mother to see Anya so that she could translate for her. She and Anya got along really well and when Dhurata was still in high school Anya offered her an internship. Dhurata is now our Office Manager and her mother, of course, continues to knit for us.
