How Our Sweaters Are Made

Each HANIA by Anya Cole Hand Knit sweater and accessory is designed in our studio on 56th Street in New York City by Anya Cole as a testament to the traditions of hand knitting she learned as a child.  Making our pieces in New York City guarantees that Anya can be a part of each step of the production process.

This process begins when the assigned knitter comes to our studio to pick up yarn and go over the design with Anya and our head of production, Fatime. Our knitters, who are all exceptionally skilled, work from home, which allows them to knit on their own schedule. On average a sweater usually takes between 5 and 7 days to knit, from yarns that have been twisted to our specifications for the purpose of being hand knit on two needles. The knitter then brings back the completed pieces to our studio where Anya and Fatime rigorously check each piece to ensure that proportions are correct and every stitch is as close to perfect as is possible with a hand made piece.

After each style is washed and dried in house we cut and finish, sew in tags, and prepare to ship the knits to our clients all from our NYC studio.

The HANIA by Anya Cole Made to Order service allows you to order our pieces in a variety of our seasonal and classic colors. Because each piece is individually hand knit in New York City we are also able to offer full Made to Measure services. Appointments can be made to visit our Manhattan studio.
